We started home schooling last fall. My son and I have both learned a lot since then. I invite you to read about our experience by following this link to The New York Times parenting blog–Motherlode: Home Schooling, and Teaching, a Child with Down Syndrome
Oh yeah! It makes me feel all fuzzy knowing how well you guys are doing! xoxo
Me too, Amy, me too:)
That was a GREAT piece. I’m sharing it everywhere I can. So many times people look at our kids and all they can see is what they can’t do. I choose to see what my son CAN do.
Rose, A million thanks! CAN DO! Right on! Would you commenting on the Times page the same thing? People need to know.
It was an excellent article. I share it in my Facebook page Estilo Familiar and in tweeter for the benefit of my readers. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! We are all in this together.
I wanted to post a note on there but the New York Times thing kept me in a viscious cycle of recognizing my email address but not my password and then saying they were emailing my reset but never getting it…
In any case, I thought the story was very relatable. I have a typical 9 year old son who has self-doubts as well. He struggles with school and it is so hard to help him. So much of what she said was stuff we go through, I totally think she is on the right track in seeing it as part of him as a kid. Good luck to her and her son. He sounds like a great kid.
Jodie, thank you for taking the time to share this! Relatable is important to me:)
Congratulations! You are doing such an amazing work with your son!
Thank you:)
